The Oundle Art Group (OAG) held a wonderful exhibition from in the last week of March 2026, at the Yarrow Gallery, Oundle School, Northamptonshire, England.
Entry was free and, despite the variable March weather across the UK, visitors took away favorite paintings at a brisk pace. Paintings on display always offer a wide range of topics, in different media and styles – realistic, abstract and humour – something of interest for everyone both young or older members of the family – by artists who continue working all year round.
OAG gatherings are a wonderful opportunity for artists to paint together, to exchange ideas and learn new techniques from tutors. The group embraces all levels of ability, from beginners to working artists and teachers, so there is always another member of the group on hand who can offer advice and encouragement. We are a friendly but focussed gathering …with conversations and banter as we work – and a short break with tea and biscuits!
We meet Thursday afternoons from 1345 – 1545 in Cotterstock Village Hall, near Oundle, during the winter months. Sessions are informal and alternate between having a visiting tutor and informal sessions. Suggested subjects are agreed in advance by the Committee who agree artists’ suggestions. If desired, on the day, artists may also work on their own subject. A tea & biscuit break is always on the agenda …. an opportunity to chat and admire our different approaches!
We invite Tutors once a fortnight for a workshop during the winter session. All are working artists from the adjacent areas who share a wealth of information on how2 in different styles, media and approaches to painting, so there is always something interesting to learn. Subjects range widely: landscapes and portraits, floral works and still life, abstracts and realism; working in oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolours and mixed media; animals, scenic or life drawing, and trying ways of painting – sometimes collages, or loosening one’s style, or precise botanical painting, to create challenges.
During the summer months we gather for en plein air, (outdoor painting) sessions at various locations round the area, including villages, formal gardens, rustic barns and woodlands and, of course, views along the river Nene. We have so many beautiful locations around Oundle and Northamptonshire – there is never a lack of inspiring places to paint. The afternoon ends with a sociable cup of tea in a tea room or a picnic!
Creativity and wellbeing feature highly at the Oundle Art Group – yet as a not-for-profit group, we keep costs as low as is possible. Artists bring their own materials – but we have spares and share, if someone is trying out a new media.
And then we gather to display our work completed throughout the year – and to admire and be impressed by the standard of work by our co-artists.
